Highlands and Islands - Argyll and Bute
Sarah
Our home is a detached house in the seaside town of Helensburgh. The town itself is about a 20 minute walk and it has many amenities, including supermarkets, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants as well as providing good train links to Glasgow and beyond. We are also close to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, so there is plenty of countryside and beautiful Scottish scenery all around us. Although situated within Helensburgh, our home is in a quiet, residential area. The room which you will be sleeping in is situated at the back of the house too, so not near a road or street-lighting - friends who have slept here have said they've had the best night's sleep in years as it's so peaceful. You will have use of a bedroom, family bathroom, kitchen-dining room and living room (with log burning stove.) We have a lovely, large garden which you are welcome to use too, with dining table and chairs, swing seat and chiminea. We have a separate utility room for washing and this is where the dogs sleep as they are crate trained, however, when you are at home they will like nothing more than sleeping on your lap!
It is not essential to have a car when staying at ours, the walk back from town takes about 20 minutes however it is a very steep hill walk. Also, if you are coming from the airport, without a car, you would need to go into Glasgow first to come back out via public transport (unless we are able to collect you.) There is a train station closer to our house with links to Glasgow and North to Oban but these trains run less frequently. If needed we can offer use of a car for the duration of your stay.
Please note that our house is a labour of love! Everything is fully functional but we are always working on something in the house and our wee girl loves to decorate the walls! It isn't a show home but it is a lovely, comfortable family home in a nice quiet area.
We have 3 Dachshunds who would need looking after. They are crate trained and have use of our utility room, where they can be left for short periods of time, if you are out. The maximum amount of time that you could leave them would be 5 hours, provided you made sure that they had plenty of water and some toys.
They only need walked once a day and do not need long walks 30 minutes round the block/duck pond is enough. They can be walked for up to an hour but now they are getting older they can't walk for longer than that. Maebh has an issue with her right front knee and requires daily supplements to manage this - these are sprinkled on her evening meal. All dogs are fed twice daily. Jackson also requires twice daily eye drops. They have to be walked on a lead. We also have 2 fish - they get a pinch of food every evening.
Our garden needs minimum care. We haven't got any weeding or watering to do as the good old Scottish weather does that for us! The dogs get let out into the garden to go to the toilet, so you would just need to pick up the poos to put in the green wheelie bin (bags will be provided.)
We have been using Trusted House Sitters for years. You can see our listing and reviews online (contact us for the link).
