We need a house sitter

South West - Gloucestershire

About Us
We are a professional couple and part time small holders. Eyvonne works in Human Resources and myself in recruitment. We enjoy the outside and spend lots of our time working our land. We are currently landscaping all the ground , after renting out the cottage for 5 years. We are real foodies which is why we have a small holding to supply our own produce.

Home & location
Our home is an extended 16th century cottage with 3 bedrooms. We have 5 acres of land which is set in a valley in Newham on Severn. Whilst we are in the countryside we have several neighbours around us and have a great community. You enter through a farm gate and up the driveway to the house. The property has central heating and a wood burning stove in the lounge. The bathroom is downstairs with a bath and large walk in shower. It has a kitchen/ diner which opens out on to a large patio through French doors. There are several good restaurants/pubs locally and the city of Gloucester is about 20mins drive. Being in the Forrest of Dean you have access to lots of walks and places of interest. The local town of Cinderford has a good variety of shops which is 5mins drive.
During the last two years we have built a bar and outdoor kitchen and put a small hot tub in the garden.
Our smallholding is a work in progress as we are in the middle of a landscaping project.

Responsibilities
We have a beautiful little Westie boy who loves being outside, and enjoys his daily walks, likes to graze food so bowls filled once/twice a day
Our 20 chickens are in a safe cage, need food and water once a day. They are good layers and we collect their eggs daily and sell at the gate.
Our sheep are very friendly, they need fresh water daily, we also feed them multi nuts, sugar beet and hay.

Eyvonne & Phil were great hosts. Communication was good and Bobby the dog is an absolute treasure. House is lovely, especially the large kitchen which has everything you could ever need. Chickens and sheep a doddle to look after and having fresh eggs was a lovely bonus.. Would definitely stay again.

JESS (Dec 2024 - 1 week)
We enjoyed this house sit with all the nearby walks in the Forest of Dean. Looking after Bobby was a pleasure; he is a total sweetie. What a pleasure to have fresh eggs from the chickens every day and the sheep pretty much managed themselves. As always the case on a smallholding, there were many projects on the go, adding to the air of independence and self sufficiency. We are sure Phil and Eyvonne's small holding will further evolve and look forward to returning some day to see the fruits ... MORE

GAVIN & NOLEEN (Jul 2024 - 1 week)
I hve just come back from a wonderful time. Phil and Eyvonne made me most welcome, Bobby the Westie was one of the best companions I have ever had over new year (dare I say that!), the sheep were endearing and followed me round, and the hens were no trouble at all. The house is comfortable, the area is great for walking, and overall it was an excellent experience. Thank you Phil and Eyvonne for sharing your little bit of paradise with me!

DR BARBARA (Dec 2023 - 1 week)
Eyvonne and Phil were wonderful hosts, welcoming us for dinner and breakfast before their departure. They made sure we were well informed to look after their lovely dog Bobbie, 11 sheep and 40 chickens. The house is so cosy and equipped with all the mod-cons. The location is just wonderful and we enjoyed a walk to a brewery around 30 mins away. At night the stars are beautiful because of the dark sky location. It was a wonderful experience to meet them and enjoy their home over new year.

ALICE (Dec 2022 - 3 days)
We invited Alice and Lola to stay the night before so that we could show them around the animals as we fed them in the morning and explain the various aspects of the house. They were very friendly and made it exceptionally easy to leave our home and animals in their care. They looked after ... MORE
Phil & Eyvonne were very friendly and welcoming when we visited before the house sit. They explained the animal care and made us feel relaxed about our responsibilities. Communication before and during the house sit was excellent. We enjoyed living in their warm & comfortable home in the beautiful Forest of Dean. The neighbours were friendly and helpful. We found the forest environment fascinating. The tour of Hopewell Colliery was particularly interesting. We walked with Bobby the dog from the ... MORE
