We need a house sitter

South West - Cornwall

Adam

Needed: someone to sit a friendly male retriever/spaniel cross. He is full of beans and friendly - he is a people pleaser and loves strokes, cuddles and attention, but wiill leave you alone if you tell him to. He really is a lovely dog.

He needs one decent walk a day, so if you enjoy stretching your legs he is the ideal companion.. He is well behaved, loving, house-trained, and will let you know if he needs to go out. He can be a bit territorial with dogs that he does not know when inside the house, so unfortunately this is not suitable for those who would like to bring their own dog.. Sorry!

The house is a traditional cottage in a small Cornish village. It has a lovely big private garden with many trees, plants and fantastic views across the countryside, with wonderful sunsets. There are lots of great walks nearby and it is 25 minutes drive to the North Cornish beaches and coast path.

It's a rustic place, lots of wood beams, with a big wood burner and an Aga, also has a modern dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The house is in good condition - it is a lived-in family home rather than a show-home. It's a proper cottage: comfy and cosy, especially with wood burner lit. It's fun to cook on the AGA, or we can turn that off and you can use the normal gas cooker if you prefer. The oldest part of the house is about 250 years old and was originally the village smithy. It's built from local granite and slate, and there's a lot of history that I can let you know about if you're interested.

There is central heating, fast Internet, good Wi-Fi, a decent sound system and a big TV with FreeSat, Netflix, Amazon Prime and other apps.

We have a well-equipped home office that you are welcome to use if you want to work while you are here. There is also a home gym with rowing and weights machines, a bench and some free weights. You're welcome to use the equipment - please realise that it is home rather than gym quality, and is not professionally maintained.

The area is rural - we are "between the moors" - Dartmoor on one side, Bodmin moor on the other. There are many birds including owls and woodpeckers, and a population of hedgehogs in the garden. More foxes and deer than you can count.

The nearest shops and supermarket are in Launceston, 3 miless away. There are some buses but Ideally you need your own transport. We may be able to put you on our car insurance, depending on cost.

There is easy access to the A30 trunk road. Bude, Widemouth Bay, and the North Cornish beaches are about 25 mins. Tintagel and Boscastle are 30 mins, Padstow is 40 mins. Exeter and Plymouth and Truro are 50 mins, West Cornwall and Penzance about 90 mins.

We are away for 4 weeks , and ideally we are looking for someone to sit for the whole period. We will consider a shorter sit if we can find two sitters who can do back-to-back.

Anna and Adam were wonderful hosts who made us feel right at home from the start. They took the time to get to know us and showed us everything we needed to know about the sit and the surrounding area. The communication between us was smooth and easy throughout, and we had no issues when questions or queries arose. Their dogs, Bella and Zorro, were incredibly well-behaved and affectionate. We loved exploring the beautiful countryside with them. We would highly recommend house-sitting ... MORE

ALEXEI & LIN (Sep 2024 - 4 weeks)
Communications with Adam and Anna before and during the sit were excellent. Forge Cottage provided comfortable accomodation and was situated in a pretty village with nearby a convenient communal dog-walking area during a period of 'challenging' weather! The dogs, Zorro and Bella were well-behaved and affectionate company.

CHRIS (Mar 2024 - 2 weeks 1 night)
From our first contact on it felt right. Before my arrival we stayed in touch and everything was arranged just perfectly. This was my first house/pet sitting via this website and I could not have wished for a better one. The family warm and welcoming, the dogs are lovely. The house, in Langore, has a beautiful garden with stunning view. If you like quiet, this is the place to be. The dogs are easy going and we got along very well. everyone loves them. Exploring the area together with them. The ... MORE

Hey, thanks Linda. Thanks! We would love for you to do this again . We are friends now! Let's stay in touch :-)
A very warm welcome, everything explained well. Dogs absolutely gorgeous and really well behaved. Recall amazing. Great area for a base to visit other areas.

PAUL (Jan 2023 - 4 days)
Adam and Anna made me feel very comfortable and took the time to go through everything before they left, as well as leaving a helpful booklet about the house and dogs. The guest bedroom was cosy and Adam and Anna were happy for me to use amenities such as the coffee machine and dishwasher. I visited the cottage in November so made good use of the woodburner. The two dogs, Bella and Zorro, were very attentive and I enjoyed walking them in the surrounding countryside. I had a lovely few days in ... MORE

KATHERINE (Nov 2022 - 5 days)
Thanks Kat, just got back and everything is in good order thank you so much
Over the 7 days we sat for Adam and Anna we grew quickly attached to Bella and Zorro and at the end of the week had a tearful farewell as they were such beautiful and well-behaved dogs. The house has a beautiful garden, (fantastic coffee machine), good wifi and is close to fields and forest for the animals. Adam and Anna took us through everything we needed and kept in touch throughout the sit.
