We live in a lovely, quiet spot in the countryside, with our 8 year old daughter and family of animals.
We have two dogs, one a Hungarian vizsla (Lily) who is 3 years old and Charlie, a cavachon who is 10. Lily is a typically bouncy vizsla (she calms down once she’s said hello), whereas Charlie is a much gentler old man!
Charlie has a heart murmur so needs to take half a tablet twice a day (30 mins) before he eats. Charlie doesn’t do much walking because of his heart and he always uses a harness because he tends to choke himself on anything else.
As well as the dogs, we have a 15 year old male cat, Bertie. Bertie is diabetic and, as such, he needs to be injected with insulin twice a day after he is fed. This usually happens at around 7:15am and 7:15pm, but if there’s some flex it isn’t a big issue.
Because of his diabetes (and the need to inject him at roughly the same time every day), Bertie doesn’t go outside but instead uses a litter tray that will need clearing. Because he’s diabetic he goes to the loo (wee) a lot.
All three of the animals are very affectionate and generally big fans of sleep and cuddles/sitting on your knee.
Outside of the house we have 4 chickens who are very low maintenance. They just need letting out of their house into the garden once it’s light and then shutting away before it gets dark. They’re all very good at getting up and putting themselves to bed! They’re also excellent egg producers and love a stroke/chat.
The dogs and the chickens interact quite happily so there’s no issue with letting them all be in the garden at the same time.
