Our dogs sleep in the kitchen/diner. They usually wake up about 7.30 and will let you know that, by an occasional bark. We let them out for a quick wee in the garden and then give them breakfast. They are on different foods and we measure it out carefully, as they are greedy dogs and easily get overweight, which is bad for their hips. They have a morning walk of about 30-40 minutes and a late afternoon walk of 20 minutes. They are big dogs and still pull on a lead, despite our training efforts, so it’s essential to take one dog per adult. This is especially important if they see a cat! Phoebe has been attacked by other dogs twice in her life, so can sometimes be unfriendly to dogs she doesn’t know, especially on lead. It’s best to avoid confrontation, cross the road and give her space. The only place we let them both off lead is on the beach, (you can see what they’re up to!) but stay clear of fishermen, horses and small children who could get accidentally knocked over if they’re running at full speed. (They are both very gentle with children) Tessa can be let off at the park or wood, as her recall is better than Phoebe’s. We don’t leave them on their own for longer than 5/6 hours during the day, as they love to be around people. Tessa is three, but still a big puppy and likes to play. They are both very sweet, gentle, patient dogs. Phoebe needs extra TLC because she’s old. We’re careful not to make her walk too far as her hips and back legs are stiff. A slow short distance walk, where she has time to sniff everything, is best for her. They usually have a little dog-biscuit at lunch time, if we’re in, but don’t need it. We don’t give them any other food, apart from a few tiny training treats, as they are both obsessed by food and it’s a battle keeping their weight down. They have tea about 5 pm. Phoebe likes to go to bed around 6.30pm. Tessa goes about an hour later. They’re easy dogs to look after.
Walking distance to the beach, use of car, or can use bus to Norwich or Great Yarmouth, Southwold.
