North East - Northumberland
Aifionn
....We are looking for folks to look after our 3 year old dog Bertie and our 13 year old cat Teasel in our 3 bed semi detached house in Rothbury, a beautiful village in the Coquet Valley on the edge of the Northumberland National Park.
This is a one day sit with possible one overnight - or if you're local just the day.
Bertie is an easy-going and loving lurcher, Teasel is fairly aloof and will mostly look after herself. Bertie goes on 3 walks a day, is happy to travel in the car and OK to be left in a car for an hour or at home for a couple of hours. Bertie likes swimming and chasing a ball so can easily be tired out in short periods of time. He is used to someone being home most of the time because I work from home but is very chilled out at home and lies around giving me no bother while I work on the computer. There are unlimited variations of countryside walks straight from our back door (moor, river, woodland, farmland) and epic coastline within 30mins drive.
We feed Teasel twice a day but not to a strict schedule and she comes and goes as and when, often sleeping most of the day and going out all night. We don’t have a cat flap so sometimes she wakes us in the morning meowing at the bedroom door (our bedrooms are downstairs). She doesn’t like the dog much, avoids him but holds her own when she does see him - he is afraid of/intrigued by her but not aggressive. They don’t need to be kept apart. Bertie is not allowed downstairs where the bedrooms are so that’s Teasel’s haven.
Our house is ‘upside down’ with the living space upstairs and two double bedrooms and a single room downstairs. There are incredible views of the Simonside hills from the living space and bedrooms with massive floor length windows in all rooms. We have a balcony overlooking the hills and a large open plan living/dining/kitchen space plus a side tv room, also with epic views. We have a piano and an electric organ. It is 5 mins walk from our back door onto the open access land on the moors (endless walking routes) or 5 mins down to the village (supermarket, pubs, cafes, shops, restaurants, takeaways) and 10 mins to level walks along the river. Cragside National Trust is 5 mins drive away. We are 20 mins from Alnwick Castle and Garden and Barter Books, 30-35 mins from various beaches on the epic Northumberland coast and an hour from Holy Island. More photos to come soon! Please be aware our house is built into the hill so there are quite a few steps to both our front and back doors and internal stairs and steps too. We will need our indoor plants watered and possibly some garden watering too during the summer. There is a table and BBQ outside with views over the Simonside Hills.
