Alan

Owners. Alan & Sarah
House. 4 + bedroom house
Location. Downton , Salisbury

Hello

I'm Alan and I live with my partner Sarah and our dog Millie in the lovely old village of Downton about 5 miles south of Salisbury and on the edge of the New Forest
Millie is a 15 yr old Jack Russell X ,very friendly, affectionate and lively She is however now at 15 clearly a "senior dog" so whilst still very alert essentially needs a gentle walk a day , a treat or three and lots of TLC
Downton is a large and interesting old meandering village with a history dating back to Saxon times It has bus services to and from nearby villages and in particular Salisbury and the South Coast at Bournemouth
Salisbury is a 15 min drive , Fordingbridge 10 mins ,Ringwood 20 mins, New Forest 5 mins and South Coast 35 mins A car is not absolutely essential but is advised otherwise you will possibly limit the scope of your activities. There is a local bus to and from Salisbury within 50yards of the house ( but is not a frequent service ) and a Salisbury to South Coast service every 30 mins a 15 min walk away Also two adult bicycles can be available on request.
The house is a large modern build situated in a quiet residential close on the edge of the village and backing onto the gardens of an 17th C manor house. It has 4 bedrooms inc. a double guest bedroom with adjacent bathroom , office / tv room and a fully converted loft with extra living and sleeping facilities. There is also a large summerhouse and ample off road car parking ( the three garages and carport seem to overtime have changed to workshop and storage areas)
There is a sizable Co-op in the village with main supermarkets and shops in Salisbury and Fordingbridge. Other facilities in the village include 3 pubs, doctors , dentist . pharmacy , tea rooms - most within 5- 10 min walk
Past reviews from sitters are in the relevant section of the website -please note that some these relate to a previous address as I have since moved to the Salisbury area . You may however find them useful.

If you think you may be interested and would like to know more please don't hesitate to get in touch - either via website, email , telephone , What's App, FaceTime

Kind Regards

Alan & Sarah

NB We are in the middle of a long delayed move to nearby Fordingbridge. This house is modern and spacious 4 bedrooms located a few hundred yards from the centre of town
.The exact accommodation will depend upon where we are with the move .

We enjoyed meeting Alan and Sarah . We spent the evening with them and chatted over a meal Sarah had prepared for us. The house and garden are lovely with everything you need during your stay. We found the people in the village very friendly. There are good walks locally and being within easy reach of Salisbury, the New Forest and the coast there is so much to do.Sarah went through the operation of all the appliances and the information Alan left on places to visit and local walks made it easy ... PHIL & WENDY (Aug 2024 - 1 week 5 nights)
We have so enjoyed our stay in Alan and Sarah’s home in the delightful village of Downton looking after Millie. We were welcomed with a meal and overnight stay before our sit started and appreciated the opportunity to check out all the practicalities of our stay, although copious notes had already been provided, including suggestions for interesting places to visit. Alan took us on a tour of the village and we accompanied him with Millie on her favourite walk. We were encouraged to make ... MORE

GRAHAM & GILLIAN (Jun 2024 - 1 week 2 nights)
Alan and Sarah were very welcoming. Lovely house and great location with easy access to Salisbury and neighboring towns by public transport. The village itself has some great walks nearby. Millie is a super dog and very easy to look after. Millie lets you know her needs as and when she requires attention. Very calm and chilled. Highly recommend this sit.

KOON (Feb 2024 - 1 week)
We loved Millie, She is a dog who knows her own mind but she adapted really well to our quirks and we thoroughly enjoyed her. Sarah and Alan were great hosts. They made sure we enjoyed our stay at their home by providing information about everything to see and do in the area. They really went out of their way to accommodate us by inviting us to stay over the night before they left and prepared dinner for us on our arrival. We would be happy to sit for them again.

SAM (Jun 2023 - 1 week)
I had a great stay in Alan and Sarah's wonderful home. Alan made organising the trip easy and communication was first class. Downton is a great place to stay with everything you need in the village and a great location for touring the surrounding areas particularly Salisbury and the New Forest, I struggles to fit everything in. Oh and Milley (dog) was great company.

JOHN (Feb 2023 - 1 week 2 days)
I thoroughly enjoyed my house-sit in Downton. Meeting with Sarah and Alan beforehand, both on Zoom and in person, ensured I was familiar with the house and Millie's needs. Millie is a sweet dog and a lovely companion. Her walks were short, due to her age, which left me time to explore the local area during the day. This included walking the footpaths, biking in the New Forest, and bus trips to Salisbury and Bournemouth. Downton may be small but there is lots to see and do. I appreciate the ... MORE

WYNNE (Sep 2022 - 2 weeks 2 days)
Alan and . Got to knpw the villagers through the village church all in all superb. Sarah were wonderful right from the out sit . We met them for coffee a few weeks before and met '3 legged' Millie though you wouldn't think so on our walks. Thwy were most kind and briefed us about the area and even offered to pick us up from the station, which in the end wasn't needed

CHRISTOPHER (Jun 2022 - 2 weeks)
Steve and I enjoyed our stay at Alan's place. He was very welcoming and made us feel at home. When we arrived he was able to thoroughly go through everything we needed to know about his house and pets. Even though we had a lot of rain we enjoyed our stay, when the weather did brighten there were plenty of walks around the area to explore. Market Harborough is a lovely place to visit with a lovely town centre plenty of shops and watering holes. Chalky and Millie were both very affectionate ... MORE

Market Harborough is a lovely town full of character and charm and there are many beautiful villages to visit in the surrounding area. No rating I immediately felt at home with Alan and his two endearing 'kids'. Alan went to great lengths to show me the locality, including suitable walks for his 2 very lucky dogs which were easy to care for. Irresistible, really! Alan is a lovely hospitable man who provides lots of information in his welcome pack. His home was very inviting and warm. It was a great pleasure to attend and I look forward to being approached for a repeat visit. Thank you very much, Alan. Kind regards, Christine

No rating Owner Alan is considerate and mindful of everything and it was a pleasure and privilege to meet you Alan. Chalkie and Millie touched our hearts with their endearing ways. The estate is new and there is a traffic free footpath all around with lots of greenery which is great to walk the dogs and meet other 'doggie' people. Market Harbourgh is a lovely bustling town which you can walk to in around 20 minutes through a really lovely park.
JEANNIE AND BARRIE (Sep 2017 - 2 weeks 2 days)
No rating Our sit experience with Alan James was one of our best. His home is super clean, neighborhood is pet friendly, and his two dogs no trouble and lots of fun. They were great travel companions for our many day trips. Alan welcomed us like family and went to extra lengths to be sure he was well stocked with pet food and pet supplies. Lovely sitting experience.
JERRY (Jun 2017 - 1 week 5 days)
No rating I have just returned from a very pleasant two week stay in Market Harborough. The house is very well organised and comfortable in a good location. There is a good variety of dog walks right on the doorstep. Millie and Chalky are a delight to look after, both have their own distinct personalities but the one thing they have in common is their loving natures. Alan is a lovely host, who makes you most welcome and leaves clear instructions for both the house facilities, local attractions and the ... MORE

No rating Market Harborough is a charming town with many lovely parks to walk the dogs. Millie & Chalky were a delight and a pleasure to care for. The home was clean and very comfortable situated on a new estate with an exquisite food market and restaurant within walking distance. The town also has some excellent restaurants and boutiques for shopping and locks along a canal to Foxton if you enjoy seeing nature at its. best.
MYRA (Nov 2016 - 1 week 5 days)
We had a wonderful time house sitting for Alan and getting to know his two delightful dogs, Millie and Chalky. The house was very comfortable and easy to care for. Millie and Chalky were affectionate and obedient, particularly with the promise of a treat! Market Harborough is a lovely town with lots to see and do. We particularly enjoyed taking the dogs for walks along the canals and visiting Foxton Locks. We would love to be invited to sit for Alan again!

SHEENA (Sep 2016 - 1 week 5 days)
No rating You are a true gentleman and we felt so at home in your lovely house. We thoroughly enjoyed looking after Millie and Chalky and loved getting to understand their personalities. If we are free when you require a sitter at a later date, we would be more than happy to return. Market Harborough is a lovely town, plus there are some beautiful walks and places to see within a short driving distance - your comprehensive guide on the house/white goods/surrounding area etc. was invaluable. Thank you for ... MORE
