We're looking for someone/or a couple to enjoy our cottage and look after our 2 cats.
(And possibly an adopted barn owl kept nearby - very easy, you just need to throw in some chicks).
+ The owl is optional. I may be able to find someone in the village to help.
The house:
A pretty 500 yr old 2 bed cottage in a picturesque Devon village 3 miles outside Barnstaple. It has a pretty cottage garden on 2 levels. The upper garden as lovely views across the church and village.
Your room is a cosy light double room overlooking the village, hills and church. We do guest Airbnb on occasions, so it's kitted out with towels, hairdryer, iron, books etc. - hopefully all you'll need!
We're a 100 metre walk to the village centre and a nice country pub called The Jack Russell (this village is the birthplace of the breed). that does great food (worth booking in advance as it is popular!)
Location:
A 5 minute drive from 2 towns for shops etc. The bus stop is 100 metres away for buses to town. 5-10 minutes from Exmoor and a 15-20 minute drive to coast paths and beaches, some of which boast the best surf and walking in the U.K.
The animals:
2 cats + (optional barn owl).
The cats are mainly outdoors, so don’t need much! They sometimes come in and eat something, but they like being out and about.

NB. The photos in the advert are from when we bought the house. It is easier to use the agent photos as they are better! Some furniture is a bit different, but mostly similar!
I will try and update some newer ones, but the outlook is much the same!
Arrival etc:
You would be very happy to arrive the night before so we can show you around and show you the house etc. We are flexible, and would just love someone here.
Nicky and Cy were such a fantastic couple to housesit for! Lovely, friendly people with a beautiful home and such sweet pets! Mr Bennett the cat was curled up in my lap and purring like a tractor within 5 minutes. We also enjoyed exploring the nearby towns and coastline - a very beautiful corner of the UK. Definitely recommend this housesit!! Thank you Nicky and Cy :)
We are grateful to Niсky and her husband Sy for not being afraid to invite our family (this was our first experience and we had no reviews).
They were very hospitable and polite to us. Animals did not cause problems. The dog is very kind and calm. Cats spend most of their time outside. We are glad to meet new people, gain experience, and also the opportunity to visit the very beautiful places of Devon on the coast.
I really enjoyed my stay in the cottage very clean and welcoming. Cats are SUPER cute and easy to care for. Handy location, and very peaceful had some very good sleeps! Countryside walks close by to the house and shops not far. Thanks for letting me stay xxx
Beautiful village cottage with the gorgeous Mr Quiver. He is a wonderful dog who's very affectionate. He does react to other dogs when out and about but is quick to move on and absolutely adores people. Pearl the cat is self sufficient and comes and goes as she pleases. Nicky and Cy couldn't be more lovely and super helpful. Thanks so much for letting me stay!
We absolutely adored this housesit. Quiver was such great company and so much fun to have him with us for our adventures around North Devon.
The house was beautifully decorated and lovely and tidy.
The garden was low-no maintenance with a beautiful view.
Nicky and Cy were so friendly and great at communicating. We felt welcomed and at home.

Nicky and Cys cottage is a pleasure to stay in. Warm and cosy and so easy to keep clean and tidy. Rigby (dog) want a very sweet lovely dog no trouble and great company. Pearl (pussy cat) a beautiful cat was absolutely no trouble and entertaining too. I really enjoyed my sit over a difficult time of the year (Christmas). Nice to feel I could give Nicky and Cy a chance to see their family too. Thoroughly recommend and hope to be staying there again. Superb place to stay.

We found the people of Swimbridge very friendly & would often stop for a chat. It's a lovely old village & the 500 y.o. cottage was small & cosy with a modern interior & a lovely terraced garden with the high upper level overlooking the church. Nicky & Cy are an easygoing, friendly couple who made us feel very welcome from the first minute. Pearl is easy, just needs feeding. Rigby is an attractive & loving dog who loves attn. - lots of it.

An absolute pleasure to meet Nicky and Cy who are the most welcoming and friendly people. Their pretty cottage is in a perfect location for visiting so many of the surrounding areas on offer. The local village pub is wonderful and only a few minutes walk. Our time with Rigby was fun, he's such a lovely friendly dog and is happy to join you on your days out. He walked for miles with us.
Pearl the Cat comes and goes to please herself, she occasionally popped her head in.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time in Barnstaple with beautiful kitties Pearl and George, such wonderful characters and fabulous company. Pearl shy and curious and loves to cosy in front of the log-burner and George, active and adventurous and loved to snuggle up beside us at night, so cute. Nicky and Cy are a lovely couple so friendly and welcoming, and quite adventurous - highly skilled divers - interesting to see the images of their sea and diving experiences. I sat for Nicky & Cy on a couple of occasions looking after 1 - 2 cats. Nicky and Cy are very welcoming, warm, and kind people and were more than accommodating during my stays keeping in touch when they were away. The house was in a quiet, village location with a couple of nice pubs, not far from the main town center of Barnstaple and fantastic beaches such as Saunton, Croyde, and Instow and pretty seaside towns such as Appledore.
