Janet & Rick

We are a mature, non-smoking couple from South Africa who are nature lovers and enjoy travelling to experience new cultures & countries. We are an animal loving family, having provided a loving home to Golden Retrievers, cats, hamsters , tropical and pond fish, an Amazon parrot, reptiles and an host of wild birds that inhabit our property to feast on the supplies we provide for them; all of them adding their unique personalities to our lives. We are also a foster family for the Golden Retriever Rescue Organization, and have fostered a number of dogs over the past year while their forever homes are found.

Janet works as a live-in carer in the UK for 9 months in a year. Rick has enjoyed a richly diverse local and international career in education for the past 35 years. He currently works remotely as an education consultant. We have two adult children. Steven is 28 year old videography and media specialist. Amy is 26 and she has just completed her honours degree in Performing Arts. Both are avid animal lovers as well.

We own a 5 bedroomed house in a leafy suburb in Cape Town, where Rick loves gardening, DIY & doing woodwork projects. We have informally house sat & house swopped for many years as an affordable way to travel & explore. Rick comes over to house sit whilst Janet does her live-in care work, after which we enjoy travelling around the UK. Rick works from home, ensuring that your pets have company for the majority of the day. We have house sat on this site a number of time over the past 2 years, and could be happy to provide contactable references of the owners we have sat for.
