Edward & Christine

Introduction

Hi! We are the Gothams: Eddie, Christine, Hugo (11) and Ada (6). I am English born and raised, but have lived the past 20 years in SE Asia where I met my American wife. We spent over 15 years in Taiwan learning Chinese and teaching English. While I was there, I completed my MBA, and I'm now finishing up my doctoral thesis in Economics. I currently work as a translator and copy editor for academic journals, so I work by distance on my laptop. Christine is a homeschooling mum and body-mechanics therapist. Our son is thoughtful and conscientious, loves animals and reading. Ada is loving and fun. The kids are comfortable with a range of animals and have even helped take care of a ball python and a blue tongued skink!

Experience

I grew up in a house full of cats, and lots of love. The most cats we ever had at one time was 5. Despite the feline atmosphere, we still had space for a rat and several fish. Later on, I took care of goats, fed and watered them and kept them safe. Christine grew up with cats and dogs, and has had some lifelong friends who were adopted rescue animals. We know how important it is to feed, water and exercise the animals according to their needs, not necessarily a convenient human schedule.

The kids enjoy being around animals and they are often the highlight of any trip or visit. Being in Asia, feeding the fish and beetles were a key part of our household routine (large colourful beetles are very popular pets in Japan and Taiwan). Once they are friends with an animal, the children love to have them near and talk to them.

We will:

Update

May - June 2024. We went on a van cross country trip from the West Coast (Portland, Oregon) to the East Coast (Yorktown, VA). We saw lots of family and friends and even went to 16 National Parks and Monuments. The kids enjoyed being Junior Park Rangers!

July 2024 onwards. We are looking to buy a home in England. We haven't decided where to settle, and hopefully seeing some new places will reveal our ideal location!
