Hi, Peter here. A good friend of mine introduced the whole idea of house sitting and pet caring to me a few months ago, as he is something of a veteran member on this site and is enthusiastic about the mutual benefits which the house sitting/pet caring arrangement provides to participants.
I don't know many people who don't respond affectionately and tenderly to animals, whatever the species, and I am the same; I enjoy being with any animal, but I'd say I have an especial affinity with cats and with goats. To talk first of cats: Whether a cat is aloof or warm natured, playful or placid, young or aged, it can't do any wrong. I love everything about the little darlings. And to talk about goats: Although caring for them can sometimes be more challenging, their personalities are always a joy to be around.
I've worked for the past ten years as a translator and proof reader via online sites but reach retirement age shortly and think that house sitting could give me an opportunity to visit places I have never seen and to become more familiar with areas I know.
I've lived in major cities in the past - London and Paris - and have enjoyed what cities can offer. However, these days I'm happier in a village or a small town or way off out in the sticks, even the far remote sticks. I appreciate my own home and derive a lot of joy from doing the daily jobs that keep it clean, tidy and cozy. A change of scenery and the opportunity to 'sit' in someone else's treasured home, which has an atmosphere all its own, while sharing the space with one or more of the true bosses of that home, well, that works for me. I really wish it would work for you too.
