Hello everyone!
My name is Katerina and I registered at this site quite recently. My base is in Greece. I am married to a diplomat which means lots of travelling. Particularly we lived in Japan and Zimbabwe quite recently.
Travelling has offered me the opportunity to come across human attitudes towards animals I never expected, for example Japanese treat pets like babies. Cats and dogs are not the only animals they have, they also like pigs, meerkats, etc. They carry them on strollers everywhere! There are expensive pet beauty salons where they offer the best trimming in the world!
On the other hand, in Zimbabwe pets are not allowed in shops or restaurants. They are kept indoors in vast properties. The local people treat animals very gently. In our house we used to have chickens which much to my surprise are not stupid at all! On the contrary, they have high sense of community and hierarchy and they protect each other. I spend a lot of time with them trying to understand their behaviour. We have done quite a few safaris coming close to elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, snakes, secretary birds, hippos, rhinos, buffaloes, hyenas and many more.
Why I want to get involved in House Sitting? For two main reasons actually. The most important is that I love all animals and I love spending time with them. It feels magic. We used to have a Golden Retriever, a mini Chihuahua and two cats. Secondly, I love mingling in other communities abroad especially UK.
I haven't done it before but I am looking forward to trying it!
It must be a thrilling experience!
